About Me

My name is Andrea Giuffre and I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. My dissertation explores the perceptions of and approaches to social support negotiation among persons on probation. Prior to arriving at UMSL, I obtained a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Victimology from Seattle University. My primary research interests include the impact of identity formation on desistance, the social harms of criminal legal system contact, financialization of the criminal legal system, monetary sanctions, and corrections. I currently work as a research assistant for Drs. Beth Huebner and Lee Slocum on a study entitled, “Probation Violations as a Driver of Jail Incarceration in St. Louis County, Missouri” sponsored by the CUNY Institute for State and Local Governance. My work has appeared in journals such as Criminology, RSF: The Russell Sage Foundation Journal of the Social Sciences, Federal Sentencing Reporter, and Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence.
